Two products certified by the ministry
The Vietnam Ecolabel is issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment against published criteria. Each certificate covers a named product and is valid for three years.
How to check a supplier's certificate

Ask for the decision number and the certificate code (VN-ECO-...).

Check that the product named in the decision matches the product you are buying, including material and size.

Check the date: the certificate is valid for three years from signature.

Ask for the test reports behind the certificate, especially the biodegradation result with the standard and the number of days.

Treat "tự hủy" or oxo-degradable bags with caution. They fragment rather than biodegrade.

What each claim means
Use the claim that matches the certificate. Each term has a different test behind it.
- Biodegradable
- Microorganisms convert the material into CO2, water and biomass. Say it with the standard and the number of days, as in "passed EN ISO 14855-1 in 227 days".
- Compostable
- A stricter claim: biodegradation within 180 days in composting conditions, disintegration and safe compost, as set by EN 13432.
- Biobased
- Share of carbon that comes from renewable plants, measured and rated by stars in TÜV AUSTRIA OK biobased.
- Recycled content
- Share of recycled resin in the product, verified through the supply chain by GRS.
- Oxo-degradable ("tự hủy")
- Conventional plastic with an additive that makes it fragment. Not biodegradable, not compostable.
